Setting up your LinkedIn profile

LinkedIn profiles are more advanced than those of the other platforms. It offers plenty space to add your content and gives users the opportunity to read all your information to see what you have to offer. LinkedIn offers the tools, and you have to bring the relevant tools to make your profile stand out from the ever-growing crowd. Here are tips for the best profile on LinkedIn:

  • Profile Picture

The best profile picture for LinkedIn, is a picture of your face on a solid background. Use the cropping tool to crop out any other elements, so that your picture appears as professional as possible.

  • Headlines

The headline that appears below your name accompanies every mention of you across the site, so be sure that it is good. It should include your title and the name of your company. If you're the CEO of your company, write that. Don't try to invent a title that nobody has ever heard of. People need to know exactly what you do. Nobody has time to go research your title to know whether they want to add you or not.

  • Detail

In order to be connected to as many like-minded individuals as possible on LinkedIn, don't exclude your non-business experiences from your profile. Add all your accomplishments, affiliations and community interests.

  • Connections

Update your LinkedIn contacts every month. When it comes to deciding who you are going to add, think about whether you would feel comfortable engaging them telephonically or via email.

The best way to add contacts, is using the People You May Know feature.

  • Building a Reputation

Asking for recommendations is the easiest way to build your reputation, using the recommendations tool.

  • Summarise

Use your summary not as a handy place to post your CV, but rather to answer questions that people looking at your profile might ask. Use it as a personal-engagement tool and bring in the human aspect. Tell your life story here.

  • Link Up

LinkedIn has a new feature that allows you to use the Add Sections tool to link your other social media profiles and online resources. You can use this to add content from your Wordpress blog, or from Twitter and SlideShare.

Remember to add a link from your email signature to your LinkedIn profile page.

  • Go Public

By making your profile page public, it will be indexed by Google and Bing.

How to generate traffic from LinkedIn

Once your LinkedIn profile is ready, it's time to get to know the rest of the system. The platform has some great tools to boost your site.

1.  Post to LinkedIn

Several blog plugins allow you to automatically share your optimised, high quality posts on LinkedIn. By always sharing relevant information, you can create awareness and authority right on your connections' homepages.

2.  LinkedIn Groups
